Changelog

New possibilities, useful improvements, and fixes. Here’s what’s changed in Artfkt and the web demos.

Explore fractured glass

New

  • Shape images with Broken Glass. Desktop

Explore Impact Glass, Tempered Glass, Laminated Glass, Broken Mirror, Glass Splinters, and Suspended Shards. Create fine cracks, displaced reflections, and thick floating pieces with the familiar FX animation controls.

Compatibility

  • Broken Glass changes how existing projects look. Desktop

Impact Glass gains chipped internal fracture faces; Tempered Glass uses irregular granules; Laminated Glass retains two fractured layers and a continuous interlayer; Broken Mirror reflects the source through backed glass; Glass Splinters uses tapered prisms; Suspended Shards transmits imagery through overlapping solid pieces. Refractive glass, studio reflections, and local caustics replace the previous treatments. Existing projects retain their effect IDs and saved controls, but gaps now reveal the unobstructed image instead of cutting transparent holes. New material controls and revised Suspended Shards thickness, tumble, and Shared motion defaults change the appearance. Dense fractures, overlapping pieces, and large exports can take seconds per frame on either rendering backend.

Save your work and explore new looks

New

  • Save and reopen projects. Desktop

Return to recent projects, see whether changes are saved, and recover interrupted work. Save, import, and export reusable effect stacks through My Artfkts.

  • Explore your edit history. Desktop & Web

Undo, redo, and return to earlier editing states. Desktop shortcuts respect focused text fields, so editing a number or name keeps its own undo behavior.

  • Explore new collections. Desktop

Try Drawing, Motion, Collage, Interference, Systems, Soft Geometry, Refraction, Far Passage, Lucid Tide, and Pressure Index. CRT adds screen burn, color convergence, magnetic purity, and brightness flicker; Glitch adds frame echoes, line jitter, macroblocks, and waveform tears.

  • Follow practical Glitch guides. Web

New poster and cover-art walkthroughs on the Glitch site include example images and settings you can use in your own work. Try the additional Glitch effects in the browser demo, too.

Improved

  • Preview before committing. Desktop & Web

Temporarily inspect layers without effects and preview blend modes before selecting one. On desktop, compare original and processed collection samples with a before-and-after slider.

  • Control transparency and export faster. Desktop & Web

Choose whether supported color transparency reveals the source image or cuts it out. Reuse saved settings with Quick Export, and start with filenames based on your project or source image.

  • Animate on one timeline. Desktop & Web

Control each effect’s animation with its Animate switch while retaining shared, custom, and disabled parameter animation. Pattern previews now reflect the displayed duration and animation speed.

  • Keep the editor easier to scan. Desktop & Web

One effect expands per stack, with expansion remembered when switching layers. Choose thumbnail visibility and columns, try the Field theme, and use the refined macOS window layout on desktop.

Compatibility

  • Earlier animation settings. Desktop & Web

Older independent effect timing and effect-wide animation settings are unsupported by the new animation model. These settings are not automatically migrated.

Build layered, animated compositions

New

  • Combine images and control effect placement. Desktop

Apply effects to individual layers or the composition, and exclude layers from inherited effects.

  • Position images precisely. Desktop & Web

Move, resize, rotate, snap, fit, and repeat images with adjustable spacing. Resize the canvas while preserving its aspect ratio.

  • Animate effect parameters. Desktop & Web

Play, pause, scrub, restart, and set the composition duration, with shared patterns and individual parameter controls.

  • Export stills and animations. Desktop & Web

Preview exports, estimate file sizes, and save reusable export settings and templates. Available animated export formats depend on your device and browser.

  • Transition between images. Desktop

Choose a destination image, adjust its fit, and animate transition progress with the Transitions collection.

  • Browse collections visually. Desktop

Explore artwork and effect details, with new Pixel, Ochre Current, Color, Focus, Light, Warp, Film, Dither, VHS, CRT, Halftone, and Transitions collections.

Improved

  • Adjust editor comfort. Desktop & Web

Choose themes, spacing density, and text size. Use more precise numeric controls, with number formatting that follows your desktop language.

Fixed

  • Work with more reliable image placement. Desktop & Web

Off-canvas dragging retains released positions. On desktop, excluded layers preserve their appearance around effect edges and transparency.

Find effects and arrange your workspace

New

  • Start with an image. Desktop & Web

Import an image and stack, reorder, duplicate, and adjust effects.

  • Save a finished image. Desktop

Save processed still images as PNG, JPEG, or WebP on desktop.

  • Find your effects. Desktop

Find desktop effects by name or tags and save favorites.

  • Arrange your workspace. Desktop

Drag and dock workspace panels, with the desktop layout remembered between sessions.
