Transitions

Shape the exchange between two images

Transitions shapes the exchange between an incoming image and a chosen destination. Blend them, reveal one through grain, sweep a boundary, bend the handover, or break the change into drips and blocks.

Use the collection for moving image sequences in Artfkt. The middle of the transition deserves as much attention as its two intact endpoints.

Choose how one composition gives way to another

Fade blends the two images smoothly. Wipe moves a directional boundary between them. Dissolve reveals the destination through a seeded grain field. They create different relationships between the two pictures: simultaneous overlap, a moving division, or distributed replacement.

Consider the sources together before choosing a treatment. Matching a major shape or a light area can make the handover feel connected, while a deliberate contrast can make it abrupt. The transition cannot compensate for an accidental crop in the destination image.

Make the intermediate image part of the idea

Melt drags the image away in uneven drips. Wave bends both images around a moving reveal. Pixelate breaks detail into blocks, exchanges the images, and resolves it again. These treatments make the handover more visible and can become a graphic event of their own.

Scrub Progress slowly through the middle before animating. That is where the largest distortions often occur, and where important faces or lettering may become unclear. Decide whether that temporary loss of clarity is part of the intended result.

Check both ends before tuning the movement

Select the destination through the effect’s image input and inspect each endpoint in the actual composition. Align the sources and choose reveal geometry before using shared motion to move Progress between them.

A transition is a change between images, not a complete sequence editor. Compose and time it using the existing Artfkt controls, and judge its duration in relation to how much time the viewer needs to understand each source. Extra distortion is useful only when it improves that handover.

Pixelate processed image preview

Pixelate

Break into blocks, exchange images, and resolve into detail.

Creative applications

  • Move between two related cover images with a directional reveal that follows their composition.
  • Create a deliberate block-based handover between a detailed photograph and a simpler graphic image.
  • Use a grain dissolve when the change should feel distributed across the frame.

Starting workflow

  1. For a directional image reveal, prepare two images with compatible framing and an intentional relationship between their main shapes.
  2. Apply Wipe and choose the destination image through the effect’s image input.
  3. Inspect Progress at each endpoint, then scrub through the midpoint to check the division between the sources.
  4. Set the wipe direction so the boundary moves with the composition rather than across its most awkward edge.
  5. Animate Progress with the shared controls and watch the complete handover. Adjust timing only after both endpoints and the midpoint read clearly.

Make it part of your next composition.
