Phantom Sense

Bend scale, split presence, and surface internal geometry

Phantom Sense brings together five abstract instruments that transform how space, scale, and surface structure feel. A focal subject can loom forward while the periphery recedes into a cooled tunnel, a serrated ring of crystalline facets can split edges into cyan and coral fringes, or a form can step outside itself in translucent hulls connected by fine tension filaments.

Every effect in the bank is built for both flat 2D images and 3D experiences. Apply them as View FX over a composition, attach them to 3D models and Solid Text in Object surface mode so their facets, chambers, and ridges respond to Scene lighting, or use Shape & depth to deform 3D mesh silhouettes.

Five ways to bend space, boundary, and surface

Each instrument isolates a distinct spatial or structural tension. Scale Vertigo pits a focal magnification well against a receding peripheral corridor. Prism Scotoma concentrates refraction and chromatic dispersion into an expanding C-shaped or circular herringbone ring. Hulls Apart separates a form into discrete, tethered strata rather than a continuous blur.

When you want structure to lock or resonate, Fixation Lattice subdivides high-contrast regions into mirror-folded recessed chambers, while Synesthetic Ridge translates brightness and direction into standing wave ridges and paired bilateral contour basins.

One instrument across 2D View, 3D Object surface, and Shape & depth

In View FX, all five treatments process the rendered 2D image plane. When placed in Object surface on a 3D model or Solid Text, triplanar projection and surface normals attach the crystalline teeth of Prism Scotoma, the recessed walls of Fixation Lattice, and the standing waves of Synesthetic Ridge directly to the object so they turn with the form and catch Scene lights.

Scale Vertigo, Hulls Apart, and Synesthetic Ridge also support Shape & depth, where they physically displace 3D vertices into looming bulges, stepped terraces, or standing harmonic ripples.

Effects in Phantom Sense

5 effects to explore and combine.

Scale Vertigo processed image preview

Scale Vertigo

Scale Vertigo separates a composition into two competing spatial zones: an inner focal well that either looms close or shrinks away, and an outer periphery that stretches radially and cools toward detached slate tones.

Prism Scotoma processed image preview

Prism Scotoma

Prism Scotoma builds a circular or C-shaped wavefront of interlocking herringbone zigzags. Inside the active band, image details refract across sharp triangular facets while facet crests split into cold and warm spectral fringes with fine entoptic shimmer.

Hulls Apart processed image preview

Hulls Apart

Hulls Apart separates a form into discrete, stepped shells along a directional vector. While Core anchor holds the primary subject in place, outer hulls drift into translucent tinted veils connected back to the body by fine tension filaments.

Fixation Lattice processed image preview

Fixation Lattice

Fixation Lattice divides the frame into a grid that subdivides more deeply where contrast is strong or near Fixation focus. Inside each compartment, the image folds into bilateral, quadrant, or radial symmetry framed by recessed bevel walls.

Synesthetic Ridge processed image preview

Synesthetic Ridge

Synesthetic Ridge couples image brightness and local direction to standing harmonic wave-trains. As Cross-modal bend and Bilateral attractors rise, smooth gradients erupt into color-coded ridges that curl into paired, watchful contour basins.

Creative applications

  • Create surreal editorial portraits and album covers where a focal figure looms or recedes against a detached peripheral tunnel.
  • Wrap 3D typography or models in crystalline fortification facets, recursive mirrored chambers, or sculpted harmonic wave ridges that catch moving Scene lights.
  • Split architectural or figurative subjects into stepped phantom shells bridged by delicate phase threads.

Starting workflow

  1. Start with a photograph that has a clear focal structure and open surrounding space, or select a 3D model or Solid Text layer.
  2. Apply Scale Vertigo to test focal presence: sweep Focal scale from negative recession to positive looming swell, then raise Tunnel pull and Peripheral detachment to separate the subject from the outer frame.
  3. Stack or switch to Prism Scotoma when you want a sharp geometric interruption. Adjust Aura radius and Arc opening to position the herringbone fortification band across high-contrast lines.
  4. Try Hulls Apart to step the form into translucent shells along Drift angle, or apply Fixation Lattice and Synesthetic Ridge in Object surface mode on a 3D layer and orbit your Scene light to inspect the normal relief.

Make it part of your next composition.
