Inside Artfkt / Layers

What can you add to a composition?

Start with a picture, put a live camera or another film above it, and see what shows through. Open Add in the editor to choose the next layer.

3D Model

Add a built-in form, turn it to catch the light, and choose a material. Try the swept blades of Iris Turbine, the beveled teeth of Ratchet Comb, or the fluted bell of Canted Horn. The desktop app also imports static GLB models.

Sound

Bring a recording into the desktop composition. Place it in time and mix it with the other sound in your project.

Want to add a mark of your own? On desktop, choose a Drawing layer. For a shared 3D space, select a compatible layer and choose Use Document Scene. Add more members to give those objects one camera and a common sense of depth.

Drawing / Desktop

Leave your own mark.

Sign a photograph, underline a title, or draw a loose shape over a collage. Choose Add → Drawing and work directly on the composition.

  1. Set a color and brush size in the Inspector. Add softness for a feathered mark, or use pen pressure to vary its width. Each stroke keeps its own appearance.
  2. Erase part of a mistake, remove a whole stroke, or choose Select stroke to move and restyle a mark. Choose Done to leave drawing mode; select the layer and choose Draw to return.
  3. Add Trace from Form and animate Progress to reveal your strokes in order. Try Keepsake to see how a few harmonics can hold the character of your line. Both effects also work on existing Shape outlines.
  4. Switch between Source and FX preview while editing. Your saved project retains the strokes and corrections; export uses the finished effect treatment.

  1. On desktop or in the free browser demo, choose Add → Webcam. Allow camera access when prompted. Choose a camera in the Inspector. To switch just one layer, open its ••• menu in Layers. The picture stays on your device.
  2. To make Live Ink, add a Video below the Webcam. Put Risograph on the Webcam and set its layer blend to Multiply. Drag a corner to resize the feed, or use Transform to fit or fill the canvas.
  3. For Hold That Gesture, duplicate the Webcam and select the copy. Freeze holds just that feed. Capture frame converts it to an Image with the source pixels. Leave the original Webcam live, tint the copy blue with Duotone, move it a little left, and use Screen to mix the two.
  4. Choose Record live to save the moving composition. Stop when the moment feels right. The browser saves up to 30 seconds of silent video. On desktop, record an MP4 silently or include live Master audio.
