Pocket Mischief

Small pictures. Big personalities.

Pocket Mischief turns photographs into small-format play: four-tone captures, mirrored faces, spliced portraits, tiny performers, drawn expressions, and decorated prints.

Use it in Artfkt for personal image experiments and playful graphic compositions. The image crop and manual placement are part of the creative process, not steps to skip.

Make a face read with fewer tones

Pocket Capture compresses a photograph into four ink-like tones, coarse cells, sharpened edges, and ordered texture. A clear crop matters because small tonal changes must carry features that a full-color photograph describes more subtly.

Mirror Booth folds that photographic language into mirrored halves, four reflections, or a repeated quartet. Begin with a face or object whose position is deliberate in the source. The symmetry becomes more expressive when you choose what meets at the join rather than accepting an accidental center.

Place the character yourself

Photo Splice combines two selected images through splits, bands, or a four-tone fusion. Use its crop controls to align the two subjects. Photo Puppet places a photographic head on a small performer, while Doodle Mask adds pixel glasses, expressive brows, and drawn facial details.

The face placement is manual. Choose a source where the features are visible and use the crop and spacing controls to make the treatment belong to that face. A larger head or exaggerated expression can be part of the joke, but the joke works better when the underlying alignment is intentional.

Turn one photograph into several observations

Tiny Prints arranges captured moments as decorated strips, a quartet, or a stepped flipbook. Crop travel can explore different views of a single still, so a sequence does not require several unrelated photographs. Animated upstream content can supply changing captured moments instead.

The sibling effects can apply their own Camera treatment. Turn it off when an upstream Pocket Capture or another treatment already provides the tones you want. This makes the playful structure and the photographic rendering independent decisions rather than repeatedly compressing the image by accident.

Creative applications

  • Make a four-tone portrait quartet with deliberately varied crops.
  • Create a manually aligned split portrait from two images you have permission to use.
  • Develop a playful character graphic with an oversized photographic head and a simple surrounding layout.

Starting workflow

  1. For a pocket-photo quartet, choose a clear face or object with enough space around it for several crops.
  2. Apply Tiny Prints in its quartet layout and use Crop travel to vary the framing between prints.
  3. Check that each crop contains a readable feature rather than an arbitrary piece of background.
  4. If Pocket Capture is already upstream, turn off the sibling Camera treatment when the existing tones are sufficient.
  5. Compare the quartet at its final small size. For a moving variation, explore the flipbook or upstream animation only after the individual views read clearly.

Make it part of your next composition.
