Pressure Index
Damaged impressions. Uneasy motion.
Pressure Index puts recognizable images under material tension. Repeated impressions lose fidelity, corrosion spreads, metal pins raise a relief, fixed bands compress detail, and selected structures leave temporal scars.
Use it for damaged editorial imagery and expressive moving studies in Artfkt. The most useful amount often sits between a readable subject and a mechanism beginning to take over.

Choose a mechanism that the viewer can read
Compression Cage squeezes detail into band centers while their boundaries remain fixed. Pinfield raises bright source regions into a bed of constant-width metal heads. One compresses the image within a structure; the other makes that structure physically apparent through an impression.
Start with a face, object, or graphic fragment whose identity is easy to recognize. Its deformation then has something to act against. If the source is already abstract and equally busy everywhere, the pressure mechanism can become harder to distinguish from ordinary texture.
Separate failed copies from surface takeover
Serial Loss creates offset impressions with progressive filtering and density changes. Its surface wear is independent, so the copy-loss mechanism can remain visible without a heavy distressed overlay. Oxide Bloom grows a seeded deposit with pitted interiors and exposed edges through the image’s structure.
Compare the change in the source with the new material on top of it. A lost impression and a corroded surface tell different stories. Combining them can work, but each should contribute something visible rather than simply increasing damage everywhere.
Make tension and release part of the motion
Signal Scar pulls selected fine structures into directional decaying streaks while smoother regions retain the current image. Its history and whole-pixel movement are different from a uniform blur; at small sizes and slow speeds the motion can advance in visible steps.
For moving work, compare a readable state, an extreme state, and the return between them. A slow change in geometry beneath a more active pressure control can make the mechanism easier to follow. For a still, select the point where the image and the treatment remain in productive balance.
Effects in Pressure Index
5 effects to explore and combine.

Serial Loss
Build a chain of offset impressions whose fine detail gradually softens and whose density grows less faithful. Surface wear adds erosion independently, so the copy-loss mechanism stays clear even with wear turned down.

Oxide Bloom
Grow corrosion into the image’s structure: dark pitted interiors, rough deposit walls and brighter exposed edges. Spread pushes the same seeded surface from scattered attachment into aggressive material takeover.

Pinfield
Press an image into a bed of metal pins. Raise the impression, expose its shafts with Viewing tilt, and deepen the gaps with Neighbor shadow.

Compression Cage
Squeeze image detail into the centers of joined bands while their boundaries stay fixed. A retaining lip adds a narrow dark edge and a lighter opposing edge; shear pushes the enclosed image sideways.

Signal Scar
Pull selected fine structures into directional, decaying streaks. Whole-pixel movement preserves their edges through successive history steps while smooth regions keep the current image.
Creative applications
- Create an editorial portrait that remains recognizable while a mechanical structure compresses it.
- Develop damaged-copy studies with separate control over repetition and surface corrosion.
- Build a motion piece around failure and recovery instead of constant maximum distortion.
Starting workflow
- For a damaged-impression study, choose a simple object image with clear edges and quiet surrounding space.
- Apply Serial Loss and adjust progressive loss while comparing the first impression with the later copies.
- Set Copy offset so the repetitions form a deliberate direction rather than an indistinct blur.
- Compare a restrained Oxide Bloom addition, growing the deposit only where it adds a different material quality.
- For a still, choose a readable balance. For motion, animate the loss or spread and inspect both the harsh state and the recovery.
