Collage
Reassemble the picture as a material
Collage treats the incoming picture as something that can be cut, torn, folded, and reassembled. Its fragments preserve a relationship to the source while margins, overlaps, and repeated crops create a new reading order.
Use it in Artfkt for editorial imagery, photographic cover art, and material studies. These effects reorganize their input; you decide how that treated image sits among the other layers in a composition.

Make the gaps part of the image
A collage treatment changes more than the edge texture. It decides where one fragment ends, how much of the original survives, and how the eye crosses the spaces between pieces. Large gaps can make a familiar subject seem assembled from separate observations; narrow gaps preserve continuity while exposing the construction.
Cut Paper separates irregular fragments with margins, displacement, and rotation. Torn Strips keeps longer ribbons of image information and gives their edges a fibrous irregularity. Use a source with features that continue across several fragments, such as a strong silhouette or a horizon, if you want the reconstruction to remain apparent.
Choose a material logic for the composition
Folded Paper introduces alternating panel faces and fold shading. Woven Image gives strips an over-and-under rhythm. Décollage peels through offset impressions of the same image, suggesting accumulated print layers. Their forms imply different handling of a material, so compare them as alternatives before adding further texture.
Contact Sheet arranges varied crops in a spaced grid. It is useful when a picture contains several details worth isolating, or when repeated views of one subject make a stronger statement than a single crop. The effect rearranges the incoming image; it does not automatically select and assemble a folder of separate photographs.
Keep a route through the fragments
Start with an image whose main shapes remain understandable when partly interrupted. A densely textured picture can produce rich fragments but little distinction between them. A simpler subject lets the cut, fold, or weave become the secondary visual language instead of getting lost in the source.
In a layered Artfkt composition, keep essential typography separate when it must stay readable. Let the collage establish the rhythm of a background or central image, then use the surrounding space to give it a deliberate place on the page. A convincing composition does not require every edge to look damaged.
Effects in Collage
6 effects to explore and combine.

Cut Paper
Separate irregular image fragments with cut margins, rotation, and displacement.

Torn Strips
Separate continuous ribbons along irregular fibrous tears.

Décollage
Peel torn regions through offset impressions of the same image.

Contact Sheet
Arrange varied crops into a spaced editorial contact sheet.

Woven Image
Interlace image strips with alternating over-and-under crossings.

Folded Paper
Fold image panels into shaded alternating front and reverse faces.
Creative applications
- Create an editorial opener in which torn ribbons interrupt a recognizable photograph without losing its main silhouette.
- Build a contact-sheet cover from several crops of one source, using spacing to establish a rhythm around a title.
- Explore folded or woven photographic surfaces as material studies alongside simpler graphic elements.
Starting workflow
- For a torn-paper editorial image, choose a photograph with one strong contour that crosses several parts of the frame.
- Apply Torn Strips and establish the ribbon arrangement and spacing before increasing edge irregularity.
- Adjust Tear roughness while comparing the edges against the source detail. Stop when the material reads clearly without making every strip look unrelated.
- Place the treated image within the larger composition and leave enough quiet space for a title or caption.
- Compare at the final reading size. If the subject is hard to follow, simplify the spacing or treatment before adding another effect.
Make it part of your next composition.
